Parked Domains
Sub-domains
Pointing a domain to a folder
Adding additional accounts
What
does it mean to Park, Point a domain or add a Sub-domain?
Parked
domain
This will point additional domains to your existing account and
all files and emails will work the same for all domains. For example,
if you go to www.parked_domain.com you will see the same pages as
www.main_domain.com
Also,
Email to user@parked_domain.com will also go to the same user as
user@main_domain.com
There is no charge to park a domain, you may add them any time in
your control panel. The domain name should already be pointing to
our nameservers and not to another site in order for it to work.
Newly registered domains, will not be able to be parked until they
are pointing to our server.
Sub-domain
A sub domain is one, which resides under your top-level domain name,
but in many ways behaves as a "totally independent domain".
For Example: You're a if you are a department store and sell many
items, you can add a sub-domain like http://tools.store.com which
goes right to the tool department.
1.
Login to your control panel
2. Select the Sub Domain feature
3. Enter the name of your new sub domain
4. Click "Add"
That's
it! Your new sub domain is now ready for use. To find it, login
to your "main web directory" through Cpanel by selecting
"files" or simply use your favorite FTP client. You'll
see it residing as another directory. Upload your files to this
directory just as you would with any other. For example, if you
created bob, then a directory called bob is what you'll be looking
for.
Independent
cgi-bin
All
new sub domains are created with their own independent cgi-bin.
This means your new sub domain operates independently of everything
else, and is almost like having a whole new domain. Feel free to
configure all cgi scripts, which are pertinent to the functioning
of this sub domain. A nice feature, as it saves your main cgi-bin
from becoming cluttered and somewhat disorganized; especially if
you utilize a lot of cgi programming.
Note:
Mail for your sub-domains will go to the main domain. For example,
mail to:
sales@tools.store.com will go to the user: sales@store.com
Domain
pointed to folder.
This
will allow you to create a folder within your existing account to
host a site with different files/pages. Here's how it works: (we
will use bob.com as an example of an add-on domain)
-Click
Additional Domain in your control panel.
-Enter
bob.com as the domain and choose a username/password for that site.
Then
any files you put into the /bob folder will show up at www.pointed_domain.com
One
important note: pointed domains will still get mail at the main
account, so bob@pointed_domain.com would still go to the mailbox
of whoever@main_domain.com
3.
If you need a separate login for control panel/ftp and mail for
the new domain, you will need to create a separate hosting account
sales will set this up for you.
Add
Additional Hosting Accounts
If you have a hosting account (Plus Plan or higher) with us and
would like a separate account for another domain which would 'share'
the resources of the main account, we can set this up for you for
a one-time $5 set up fee per additional account added.
The
only reason you would need this is if you desire a 2nd control panel
for the new account. If you do not need a separate control panel
for the new account, then a pointer (above) will work fine for you.
This
will allow more than 1 account to share the resources alotted to
you.
For example, if your account comes with 100 MB of space and 5000
MB of transfer, then it would be shared amongst the accounts. You
can only have enough accounts to allow for 1 FTP user per account,
so if your plan only comes with 5 FTP users, then you cannot have
more than 4 additional accounts within yours. For details or to
set this up, please contact sales.
Note: If you can
access your control panel, you should not use these addresses,
instead, use the support form in your control panel. This makes
support much easier and includes information we need to process your
request.
If you can not access your site or your control panel,
and need support use the link below:
-Open a trouble ticket using email to:
support@scorpionsystems.net
Make sure to include:
-Your Domain Name
-Username
-Problem you are having
-Address we can reply to
-Control panel password to verify your account
(important!)
Before you e-mail support,
it is a good idea to consider that if a problem is server or network
wide, we know about it. We have several systems montioring our servers
and they notify us when there is a problem.
Note: We do not offer telephone support at this time.
